Government InnovationFoster innovation in changing political situations
by Dutch Innovation Organisation

How might we foster innovation in the Netherlands under changing political circumstances?
The importance of innovation for the Netherlands: Innovation is crucial for the Dutch economy and society. As a small, open economy, the Netherlands heavily depends on its ability to innovate and remain competitive in the global market. Innovation drives economic growth, creates new jobs, and contributes to solving societal challenges in areas such as healthcare, sustainability, and digitalization. A strong innovation climate also attracts international talent and investments. Government policies play a crucial role in creating the right conditions and incentives for companies, knowledge institutions, and other organizations to invest in research, development, and innovation. Changing circumstances and call for solutions: The new coalition agreement brings changes that may affect the innovation climate in the Netherlands. Although 'Hope, Courage and Pride' is a promising title, various innovation-enhancing measures are being scrapped. In light of these developments, we cannot rely solely on the government to maintain and strengthen the Netherlands' innovative character. Instead, we need the input and ideas of all stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem - businesses, knowledge institutions, governments, and civil society organizations. We believe that by joining forces and putting our heads together, we can come up with creative solutions to keep the Netherlands at the forefront of innovation. This is where we need your help: What can we do together to intensify public-private partnerships in research and innovation, stimulate entrepreneurship and start-ups, attract and retain talent, and strategically invest in key technologies and societal transitions? How can we learn from best practices and successful innovation strategies in other countries? We invite you to share your bold ideas and insights on how we can collectively shoulder the responsibility and adaptively respond to changing circumstances, ensuring that the Netherlands maintains and strengthens its position as an innovation leader.

Create local creativity hubs
The hubs can be a couple of businesses supported by local government. So you will be less dependent on government money and judgement.

Act more locally, conquer more globally
We have to use local areas to connect people. Like how is now happening with novel-t and DID and SCvO. Support the schools in their quest to connect, and then we can spread our ideas later!

Innovation activism
If XR can change the course of governments the innovation sector surely can. Take your robots to the streets. Protest. Occupy. Make signs. Organize a March. Gather people together. Organize innovate-a-thons. Create coalitions.

First go to the root of the problem – discover why people are afraid of innovation and tackle these ideas.
We can create so many solutions, but if people don’t want to change, change won’t come. We need to see why this change is being held back and start from there.
